2009-10 Proficiency Strategies
1. Scientifically Research-Based
Curriculum
- Identify/research/implement
exemplary models for continuous improvement.
- Curriculum
materials and lesson plans are aligned to the New Mexico Standards and
Benchmarks and Performance Standards.
2. Instruction
- Math
instruction has doubled (up to 90 minutes per day).
- Language
arts instruction (reading and writing) has increased from 90 minutes to
120 per day.
- Providing
more hands-on, small-group and one-on-one instruction and assistance to
help students with their individual learning style (holistic and linear
concepts).
3. After-School Programming

Math, language arts, science and cultural
education integrated within the Extended Learning, AVID, Elev8 and Project
Venture programs.
- Math
and language arts instruction and tutoring is also extended into summer
school.

Parent
Involvement
- PTO
meetings and events, Parent/student fun nights, events and testing
jamborees.
5.
Assessments
- Math
and language arts assessment tools are utilized to measure students’
achievement, classroom evaluation and/or professional development
purposes.
- New
Mexico Standards-Based Assessment practice tests are conducted.
- Classroom
walk-throughs are conducted to assess lesson plans/curriculum alignment.
6. Quality Teachers
- Building
an exemplary workforce who continues their education, credentials and qualifications.
- Partnerships are in place with UNM, NMSU and Teach for America for team development/recruitment.
- Professional development/training
aligned to improve student achievement.
